Mr. Michael Anzilotti
Mr. Anzilotti is President of Virginia Commerce Bancorp, Inc., in Arlington, Virginia, the parent bank holding company for Virginia Commerce Bank, a Virginia state chartered bank that pursues a traditional community banking strategy, offering a full range of business and consumer banking services principally to individuals and small-to-medium size businesses in Northern Virginia and the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Mr. Anzilotti is past president and chief executive officer of First Virginia Bank in Northern Virginia. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, and went on to earn an MBA from George Mason University.
Mr. Frederick J. Cobb
Mr. Cobb is the owner and President of Cobb Technologies, Inc., a distributor of document imaging products and Virginia’s leading independent document solutions dealer with offices in Blacksburg, Fredericksburg, Richmond, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Newport News/Tidewater, Virginia. Mr. Cobb is also a private real estate investor. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.
Ms. Beverley E. Dalton
Ms. Dalton is an owner and Chair of the Board of W. C. English, Inc., which is engaged in general heavy construction services. She has been a member of the town council in Altavista, Virginia, and was the first woman to serve as chair of the Board of Trustees at Randolph-Macon College in 1993. She serves as a trustee of the W. C. English Foundation, the Virginia Historical Society, and on the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. She graduated from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1970.
Mr. Ben J. Davenport, Jr.
Mr. Davenport is the Chairman of First Piedmont Corporation, a regional waste hauling and disposal company, and Davenport Energy, a regional petroleum supplier. He is the former President of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. His volunteer commitments include serving on the Boards of Hargrave Military Academy, the Danville Regional Foundation, and the Future of the Piedmont Foundation. A driving force behind efforts to revitalize the economy of Southside Virginia, he championed the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville. As then-Rector of the Board of Visitors, he was a signatory of Virginia Tech’s “Principles of Community” in 2005. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
Ms. Michele “Shelley” Duke
Ms. Duke is owner and Manager of Rallywood Farm, located in Middleburg, Virginia. Ms. Duke is also chairperson of Virginia Tech’s Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center Council, a premier full-service equine hospital located in Leesburg, Virginia, that offers advanced specialty care, 24-hour emergency treatment and diagnostic services for all ages and breeds of horses. She is also a member of Virginia Tech’s Women and Leadership in Philanthropy Council. Formerly, she held positions with Shearson Hayden Stone, Inc., J. A. Sanford and Company, and Blythe and Company, Inc. She was designated as an honorary Virginia Tech alumna in 2005.
Mr. Douglas R. Fahl
Mr. Fahl is Executive Vice President for Dewberry & Davis, LLC in Leesburg, Virginia, a firm with offices in more than 40 locations and 18 states providing services in program management, planning, engineering, architecture, surveying, geographic information services, and the environmental sciences. He is a planner and engineer with over 30 years’ experience in urban and regional planning, the land use regulatory process, land planning, and site engineering. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Dr. Calvin D. Jamison, Sr
Dr. Jamison is the Vice President for Business Affairs at the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to his current role, Dr. Jamison served as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Hampton University, and is also the former CEO/City Manager of Richmond, Virginia. Prior to serving as City Manager of Richmond, Dr. Jamison spent 14 years in higher education with faculty and administrative roles at Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Tech, including a position as Assistant to the President at Virginia Tech. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in 1977, a Master's in 1981, followed by a Doctorate degree in 1988, all in Education.
Mr. John R. Lawson, II
Mr. Lawson is President and Chief Executive Officer of W. M. Jordan Company, Inc., a top construction company ranking in Engineering News Record's Top 400 Contractors in the United States for the past 25 years. The company, founded in 1958, operates from its Virginia offices located in Newport News and Richmond. Mr. Lawson joined W. M. Jordan Company in 1975 as a field engineer. Under his leadership as President and CEO, W. M. Jordan Company has become the largest general contractor in Virginia. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics, and a 1989 graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Associated General Contractors of America.
Ms. Sandra Stiner Lowe
Ms. Lowe is past Executive Director (retired in 2005) of the Fairfax County Office of Partnerships, an organization that creates and develops public/private partnerships to stimulate positive change in the community and encourages civic involvement and responsibility, bringing together representatives and resources from all sectors of o the community to address the many challenges faced by underserved families living in Fairfax County. Ms. Lowe was also the principal architect at Fairfax County Computer Learning Centers Partnership (CLCP). She is a Virginia Tech alumna, graduating in 1979 with a Master of Science degree in Urban Affairs, after earning a Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&M University.
Mr. George C. Nolen
Mr. Nolen is past President and Chief Executive Officer (retired in 2009) of Siemens Corporation in New York, NY (U.S. corporate headquarters), one of the world’s largest global electronics and engineering companies. Founded over 160 years ago, the company, with global headquarters in Munich, is a leader in the areas of medical technology, power generation, factory automation, transportation, lighting, and building and water technologies. Previously, Mr. Nolen served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Information and Communications Networks, Inc (now Siemens Communications, Inc.) in the United States and Siemens Enterprise Networks, LLC. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.
Mr. Paul W. Rogers, Jr.
Mr. Rogers is owner of Rogers Farms, a 1,200-acre farm, growing crops of cotton, peanuts, and grains and producing timber on another 300 acres in the Southampton, Sussex, and Surrey Counties of Virginia. He is in partnership in Rogers Farms with his son, Paul Rogers, III. Mr. Rogers serves as an ex-officio Board member by virtue of his role as Chairman of the Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services, a board that promotes the agriculture interest of Virginia, advises the governor on the state of the industry of agriculture, and works with members of the agricultural community and with federal and state agencies to develop and implement programs that will provide for a strong and viable Virginia agriculture. He is a 1969 graduate of the North Carolina State University-Agriculture Institute, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, and a 2000 fellow (graduate) of the University of Virginia, Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.
Mr. James W. Severt, Sr.
Mr. Severt is a private investor and co-owner of Martinsville Travel located in Martinsville, Virginia. Martinsville Travel was established in 1972, as a full service travel agency proving services to corporate and leisure clients. After 17 years with Nationwide Homes, he retired as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2000. Formerly, he was Vice President of Finance at Continental Homes. He is the founder of the Industrialized Housing Association of Virginia. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Mr. James R. Smith
Mr. Smith is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Smith/Packett Med-Com, Inc., located in Roanoke, Virginia. One of the largest senior housing and care development companies in the country, Smith/Packett, has worked with municipalities throughout Virginia to replace elderly care facilities operated by local governments and focused on partnerships with management companies and other healthcare providers to provide long-term care facilities in many underserved areas, acquiring over the years more than 150 senior health and housing facilities throughout the Southeast. Mr. Smith is a recognized expert in Medicare and Medicaid and other long-term care issues and as a result frequently serves on national and state committees on reimbursement reform. He is a Virginia Tech alumnus, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.
Dr. Lori L. Wagner
Dr. Wagner is Manager of Advanced Fibers and Composites at Honeywell International, Inc., (formerly AlliedSignal Corporation) located in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Honeywell International is a Fortune 100 diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials. Joining AlliedSignal in 1986, Dr. Wagner initially worked on the commercialization of Spectra fiber. Since that time, she has held positions in other fiber businesses within the company, ranging from commercial positions to research and development. She is a Virginia Tech alumnus, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in 1987, in Chemical Engineering.
Undergraduate Student Representative: Ms. Kristina Hartman
Ms. Hartman, of South Glastonbury, Connecticut, is a junior majoring in Biological Sciences in the College of Science. She serves as the director of community initiatives for the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Branch, where she has been involved in the development, planning, and incorporation of sustainability into many SGA-sponsored programs, including the Green Effect Football game, The Community Picnic, The Big Event, and Relay for Life. Ms. Hartman is also a member of Virginia Tech’s Health Education and Awareness Team and serves as an undergraduate representative to the Energy and Sustainability Committee and as a member of the GREEN team. Her honors and awards include Leadership Tech’s 2008 Outstanding Leadership and Service Award and the Student Government Association’s October 2008 Executive Officer of the Month Award.
Graduate Student Representative: Ms. Rebecca French
Ms. French of Blacksburg, Virginia, is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geosciences in the College of Science. Ms. French earned a Master's degree in Environmental Soil Chemistry and Ecotoxicology from Cornell University and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Environmental Studies from Oberlin College. She holds a graduate research assistantship with the Department of Geosciences, is a member of the National Foundation Center for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology, and serves on the Health Insurance Committee at Virginia Tech as a graduate student assembly representative and cabinet member, working to provide better health care for students. Ms. French has received numerous honors and awards, including membership in the Virginia Tech Graduate Scholars Society, The Oberlin College Harry N. Holmes Chemistry Award, and the Cornell Biogeochemistry and Environmental Biocomplexity (BEB) Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Research Grant Award. She is also a National Science Foundation IGERT Fellow.
Staff Senate Representative: Mr. Thomas L. Tucker
Mr. Tucker graduated from Virginia Tech in 1983 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. Subsequently, Mr. Tucker completed additional graduate level courses at the university until 1986 when he began working for Virginia Tech in the university architect’s office. Currently, Mr. Tucker is a Space Information Manager in the Facilities Information Systems Department here at the university.
Faculty Senate Representative: Dr. Gary L. Long
Dr. Long received his Bachelors and Doctorate degrees in Chemistry from Wake Forest University and North Carolina State University, in 1978 and 1982, respectively. Dr. Long joined the university in 1983 and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry. His research programs involve environmental chemistry and chemical education. Dr. Long has received Certificates for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching from the College of Arts and Science, the Diversity Award from the College of Arts and Science for enhancing the university experience for people of color at Virginia Tech, the Alumni Award for Excellence in Team Outreach, and the W. E. Wine Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Analytical Division of the American Chemical Society, the Phi Lambda Upsilon (the National Chemical Honor Society),Phi Beta Delta (the Honor Society for International Scholars), Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society), and the Virginia Academy of Science.
